FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS

Q: How does payment work?
A: Tuition is based on the number of lesson days in a given month. Examples: If your lessons are on Wednesdays in March, there are 4 Wednesdays so the tuition would be 4 x class price. If your lessons are on Mondays in March, there are 5 Mondays so the tuition would be 5 x class price.

Q: Can I enroll for just 1 or 2 lessons to try it out?
A: We don’t offer single lessons, but you can sign up for 1 month to test it out. If it’s not your vibe, just make sure to cancel before the 25th so you won’t be charged for the next month.

Q: What’s a planned absence?
A: If you already know you’re going to miss a lesson, a planned absence lets you give us a heads-up and you will not be charged for that missed lesson. Just email info@jamiesschooloffish.com by the 25th of the previous month. Each enrollment gets one planned absence per month.
? Q: How do I cancel
A: We must receive an email by the 25th of the previous month at info@jamiesschooloffish.com letting us know that you will not be continuing lessons for the following month. Once we get it, we’ll send you a confirmation email—easy

Q: What ages do you accept?
A: We teach all ages—starting as young as 6 months and up. Everyone’s welcome

Q: What type of swim diapers are allowed?
A: We only allow Splash About Happy Nappy Reusable Swim Diaper. We sell them at both Clovis and Fresno locations so if you can't find them we have them!
Q: How long does it take for a child to learn how to swim?
A: Every child is different—it really depends on their experience and how they feel around the water. Learning takes time, so patience is key. Our instructors work with your child every lesson to build confidence, skills, and eventually help them swim independently.

Q: What if my child is scared to swim?
A: Totally normal—every kid is different, and we work with nervous swimmers all the time. We take things slow, stay patient, and help them through the scary moments step by step. Fear won’t hold them back here—we truly believe every child (even if they don’t believe it yet ) can learn to love the water and grow confident in their skills.

Q: How long are swim lessons?
A: We offer a few different lesson options, depending on what works best for you:
-
20-minute private
-
30-minute private
-
30-minute semi-private (2 kids total, 15 minutes per child)
-
30-minute Baby & Me
Simple, flexible, and made to fit your schedule

Q: Is my child ready to swim?
A: We start classes at 6 months (sometimes earlier if parents are comfortable). A few tears at first are totally normal—most kids warm up quickly and start loving the water. Every child goes at their own pace, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Q: What can I do to help my child (or myself) succeed in swim class?
A: Don’t be afraid to ask your instructor what you can practice at home—we’re always happy to help! If your child struggles with going underwater, try gently pouring water over their head during bath time to build comfort. You can also practice simple skills like kicking while lying on the bed before bedtime. Little moments of practice go a long way.

Q: What does the waitlist mean on the swim portal?
A: If a class doesn’t say “waitlist,” it has open spots and you can enroll right away. If a class is labeled “waitlist,” it means it’s currently full—but you can request to be added and we’ll reach out if a spot opens up.

Q: How can we improve at home without a pool?
A: Here are 4 simple, pool-free ways to practice at home:
-
Bath time practice: Gently pour water over the head or practice blowing bubbles
-
Kicking drills: Have your child lie on the bed or floor and practice flutter kicks
-
Breath control: Practice big breaths and blowing air (bubbles, candles, or through a straw)
-
Body awareness: Practice floating positions on the floor and jumping with both feet
